Mk6/7 REAR SUBFRAME

Rear subframe on my Mk6 failed it's MOT, Ford say part no longer available, will a Mk7 part fit? or does anyone know someone who can fabricate something nr Sheffield.
I'ts a LWB RWD.

it's only a subframe if you are able to unbolt it .. which is not so .. so it;s the rear frame or chassis .. which would have to be patched .. or sections welded in ..
This would be economical to do yourself .. but if you had to pay someone to do it properly .. may work out costly and perhaps more than the vehicle is worth, unless its a camper or ice cream van .. than its different.

They don't have a rear subframe as such...just cross members and weldable plates etc...

Even the "youngest Mk6" is 20 years old now...so finding new factory body parts for them will be near impossible, there are companies who make some repair parts but not everything is available they are few and far between. Most people just make up and weld replacement panels themselves.
Getting someone to make the parts and weld it professionally will probably cost more than the van is worth.

Oops I meant the Rear Crossmember, the subframe got an honorary mention as an advisory.
Ford have a crossmember available but for the Mk7, it looks identical to mine apart from 2 extra captive nuts welded on.



I wondered if anyone has a Mk7 could they measure the length of this to see if it will fit my Mk6..Mine measures 1425mm.

i searched forever and cant see that actual crossmember anywhere in ebay

you have to ID your crossmember on this drawing

as you can see there are several cross members marked as : 1 , 2 , 3, 15, 16 and 14 so six to choose from.

The Ebay listing is ' Genuine Ford Rear Floor Cross X Member 1386729' which is for the Mk7 looks identical to mine, though the Ford parts Ebay guy says that mine is part 1213694. I asked if he could measure it but no was the answer. Given the cost it is too much of a risk.

So I'm going to fabricate my own section for it, but many thanks for trying to help.

would be easy enough to get in about it to make your own up if your a decent welder , or patch it but remember if patching it needs to be full continuous weld around the patch for to pass mot
