As the values depreciate, at a commercial decision, it becomes no longer sensible to repair but then if you factor in that there is no more depreciation and possibly appreciation and the earlier models are user workable the commercial decision to keep them becomes justified. Then there is the bond between the driver and his/her machine that no monetary value can decipher.
An analogy would seem to be that if a family labrador needed a vet bill of 200 quid and a new pup could be had for 150 why would you fix the old one?
