silly question i know but have you looked to see if the wire to the starter has come off or if it has any voltage when you turn the key to start ?

If the LED isnt flashing then its either bypassed, working of the fuse is blown

The fuse will cause all these symptoms

I assume you'v tried cranking it with the ignition on :?:

Check fuses 32, 33, and 34 (one or 2 of them are 5a)

If you look at the fuse box lid find the one with a ket in the symbol, (top row R/H side about 2-4 in), check that one and the 2 either side of it, the fuse box lid doesnt have a symbol printed and the fuse is a 5a, that is the fuse for the stop solenoid, starter relay and the PATS LED

Someone with a TIS can confirm, mine is playing up :x

ive pulled each fuse out one by one and checked them by eye,
ive not yet checked continuaty, but by eye they all 'look' fine.

Relays, I've located a black one, symbol of a key on the fuse box cover.
it is engaging when the key is turned to position 2, (dash lights on) so i guess that's OK.

I've also just now noticed a circuitboard thing about 5 inches by 3 inches. Tucked up behind the
glove box, i wonder what that's for?

But no, the LED has never flashed or anything ever, in the time I've had this van (all fuses look OK)
so i guess i could now check the actual LED. perhaps its blown.

So... it looks like we are hovering over 'a faulty immobiliser' theory.
Are these known to just go belly up with no real warning?

I could ask my pal to bypass it, but he says its a tricky job and would rather eliminate all other
possibles first.

Ive checked for 12v from the batt to the starter, that's passed
but I've not checked from the ignition switch to the starter.

when you say, Bypassed, do you mean the LED or the immobilizer?

Yes, i had the key at position 2 (dash lit up) and he shorted some pins on the back of the starter
and it cranked over and over (not just whizzed) and still didn't kick in :(

Check the 1st page mate

As said bypassing is a 5 miniut job, personally i wont tell anyone i dont know how to do it (for obvious reasons)

BUT what i can tell you is all the information is on the forum, you just got to find it

Defo sounds like the immobilizer, I would for a start get a replacment LED and see if that works, if not then replace the PATS module from a scrapper, But try and get the key for the donor

YESSSSSSS!

Once again you guys have come threw with the goods.
Thanks to all who helped, in confirming certain facts and helping to eliminate stuff
and thanks to OxtonyxO for helping me focus on a certain little airea behind the glove box.

Ive identified the fault and the repair is free, something i can do in a few mins with a bit of solder and an iron.

in return for your help, here's some pics of the fault ive uploaded to photobucket,
if they should vanish over time, just email me (or add a request in this thread) and ill re-upload the pics.

Basically in the photo you are looking at the Immobilizer board.
Its tucked up away behind the glove box. OxtonyxO suggested i remove the trinket tray (lol didn't know it was called that)
its easy for my model as it just pops out.
There in the hole i could see the board and relay, but last night by the light of the moon i couldn't see much.
But this morning i went for another look and this time disconnected the thing (just clips out)
In the blazing sun i could see some corrosion on one of the pins.
corrosion like you see on battery terminals.

Scrapping a little away with a blade i noticed that it had eaten away the leg of the pin itself
so with the blade i bridged the gap and gave the key a turn....

WOSSHH... she cranked over once and fired up like nothing was wrong :D

If you look at the photo here, you can see the pin im talking about on the far right.

I hope this thread helps someone else who may come across a simmerler problem in the future.
or least its something to check and eliminate .

Thanks again guys.

No, :( sadly im still not getting anything on the LED. Never did.

Ive stuck a Meter on the points and got nothing, ive yet to stick 3v to the LED
just to check the LED is ok.
But right now... im just glad shes running :)

Could someone confirm as to when this LED should Blink when under normal circumstances?

Ive also learnt from this, the bypass OxtonyxO taught me, did bypass the immobilizer in regards to my
Starter motor, but didn't bypass it Totally, As something (im guessing fuel pump) wasn't active.
I understand this is different for different models.
But it did provide my mechanic pal a valuable new trick, in testing the ignition to starter path.

Something for him to test and eliminate should he come across this again.

Once again, thank you guys. I really hope this thread helps many more people in the future.
