Starter Motor Solenoid

Postby pictishpunkgirl » Mon Dec 19, 2005 12:19 pm

Had trouble starting all winter & thought it was the battery not charging properly but yesterday found live wire to starter solenoid was a bit loose. In thightening it we broke off a bit of the solenoid casing & sparks escape. Can we glue it back on? Can you detach the solenoid from the starter motor & replace it or d'you have to get a whole new motor?

Many thanks

Morag

You can replace the soloniod, but you might just as well replace the starter, either with a recon or from the scrappie. If you go the recon route and you don't know the parts place very well, don't point this out as they make it an excuse not to accept it as an exchange, and chreg you a surcharge!

Any idea what a recon starter will cost? My parts place is quite good but it'd be nice to have some idea of what's reasonable.

thanks

Haven't bought a petrol starter recently, I think they would be around the £100 mark reconned. Second hand would be £10-20, and they are dead easy to fit.
