Hi All,

Right, I have an option on a 2001 plate new shape 100ps ex-police van. SWB, seats included (6), 113K on the clock, FSH, priced to sell at £3800 inc.

What do I need to check. It drives great, it quite nippy.

Alternatively there is an S reg SWB 150 with the n/a 2.5 banana at £2100, 130k on the clock. No seats but can be converted I am sure.

I am more tempted with the S plater after the discussions I have read on here. Will need windows and rear seats adding, but I will have the budget for that if I need it.........

Am I biting off more than I can chew? Would the ex police van be a more sensible option considering the length of time I intend to keep the vehicle?

the ex police van is your better option ,as most police vehicles are well maintained and for £3800 thats a good price! and with the 100ps di not a bad engine! by the time you have spent money and time on the S reg it will not be worth it ,plus you have to think of seatbelts etc! and also the S s reg wil rust quick so buy the time you doo all the work it will be much better option to go for the new shape plus a much nicer van to drive as well! :)

If you go along the lines of the police van, check it over with a fine toothed comb.

Yes, they got regular servicing, but they also have a hard life!

lots of stop starting takes it toll on the vehicle, they get shunted up kerbs at speeds when the pressure is on, not to mention not being allowed to idle for a wee while to allow the turbo to spool down.

it may be cheap, but thats no good if it costs you a couple of K over the next few months.
