1995 Diesel keeps cutting out :(

Postby RaceLeathers » Thu Jan 19, 2006 4:21 pm

1995 Transit 2.5 Diesel
CAV pump (although according to the dealer when they checked the reg, it should have a bosch so it seems like parts have been changed during its life.

Over the last weekend, an injector pipe snapped causing a breakdown. Managed to limp it home.

Had to have an injector pipe made up as nothing from the dealer would fit. Changed the pipe and bled it just in case (I dunno if they self bleed).

The van starts but when its made to work (gently revved), it cuts out completely and the engine dies. It does start again when the clutch dipped and released while moving (bumped) and also starts on the key.

Anyone have any idea as to why it keeps cutting out?

Sounds like you have air in the system, its probably got back to the pump, I suggest you bleed the pump and all then the injectors before you look for anything more sinister.

:D Good afternoon raceleathers..... :D the bled screw is a little 8mm nut on top of the cav pump towards the rad. the pump might not of been changed, could of been a replacement engine,if you get stuck for a set of inj pipes have some in the shed best wishes Billy :D

Wooohooo !!! :D

Bled the pump (thanks Billy for letting me know where the bleed screw was) / injectors and also noticed that the fuel cut off wire was loose so nipped that up too.

All seems to be working fine again :)

Thanks again ROVER / TRANSITBILL

I wish there was a quick solution to that one!

All you can do is Waxoyl everything once you have sorted it, that should hold it at bay for a few years :D
