1998 Ford Transit Van

Postby jgavel » Sun Jan 22, 2006 12:04 pm

The headache, I have is the van has developed a problem since summer has arrived. It drives and performs perfect in the morning then as an intermittent fault it just stops and wont restart for up to 10 minutes. The engine does not overheat,Ishould add it is a petrol engine 2lt. Nobody over here knows or wants to know anything about Transits! Do you think the fault origin is the ECU that is positioned on the firewall close to the exhaust manifold? Any assistance appreciated

Sound like a vapour lock in the fuel system or fuel rail to me.

How close do the fuel lines go to the exhaust system ? Is there any source of excessive heat anywhere near the fuel rail ?

could also be a blocked filter in the fuel pump, or an obstruction in a fuel line ?

What year is the Van?

If it has a mechanical fuel pump (Pinto engine) then fitting an aftermarket electric pump will probably cure it, if its a dohc engine then it may just need a new fuel filter, possibly the injection relay is acting the prat, or more expensively a new injsection pump.

The fuel pump was replaced Oct 2005 The exhaust has a leak at the flex joint near the motor. This year the air temp has been around 40 to 45C it has me stumped. I am in Australia to i forgot to mention.

It is the DOHC motor with fuel pump in the fuel tank. It is nearly new! Where is the pump relay?

Jeez I really havnt had my head on straight the last couple of days..

Chech the fuel pressure regulator, its situated next to the throttle body, they are easy enough to change, it may be sticking once its been run for a while.

I'll get back with some more info shortly.
