Top end speed

Postby antonia » Thu Feb 02, 2006 1:07 pm

Hi, just incase you don't read the post on my previous topic (transit not starting and smoking) you were all right, it was the timing and is now fixed so thanks so much!

Anyway, new issue,

Our new (to us) transit, P reg is quicker that our old H reg up hills, has more grunt (technical term which Kev told me!) but the top speed on the flat is 75-80, whereas our old H reg would do 85-90 (the proudest moment was when it finally hit 100 going down a 3 mile long mountain raod in Spain).

Kev has taken out the butterflies, blocked off the exhaust gases and put a quarter turn on the pump (once again, apologies if this doesn't make sense)

Any ideas?

4.56 is the normal for a 100 , this could be changed to 4.11 but these are very hard to find now! this will give you better motorway speed but not good for towing!
i had a brandnew 2ltr dohc i orderd it with a 4.1 diff on the motorway with me caravan i was in 3rd gear up the hills, when i had the 100 td that was 4.56 it stayed in 5th all the time even overtook all the big range rovers on the hills! :)

Bah! That's just giving up too easy!
Is there no way of changing the internals in the diff?
What about in the gearbox?
Fitting and overdrive to the MT75?
Some where in the prop shaft?
Something must be possible!

Good round town then!

Seriously though, what about transits for other contries as hicube says?
Can I fit a five stud type axle and switch the hubs for 6 stud? I don't need the loading capcity but appreciate the ground clearance. In fact I only bought a van with 6 stud wheels because I thought it looked cooler!
