Rear door locking mech

Postby sidspop » Sat Feb 04, 2006 10:57 pm

R plate semi high, but probably applies to other vans, the rear door mechanism on the n/s door has 2 shoot bolts, which lock into the frame. There's an adjuster on the bottom one at least for length, but my problem is the shoot bar is bent, causing the doors to rattle and it drives me saft. Looking on the inside of the door I can see the ends of the shoot bars, and there's a circlip thing holding it all together, on the rear of the handle.
Question is how do I disengage (big word for Sat Night!) the bar, so as I can stick it in the vice and twat it straight?
I thankyou

Hi m8

The bars aren't straight to start with, so don't be fooled by them.

If the rods/doors are rattling when closed, it can usually be cured with new guide sleeves and a bit of door adjustment.

If you look at the black brackets bolted to the door where the rods come into view, there are some plastic sleeves (square shape) are they a close fit on the square section of the rod?
new sleeves give 1 to 2 mm movement from memory.

From there on, you need to make sure the door is pulling in tightly against the rubber blocks.

As for getting the rods off, I assume your stuck with the little square clips. press a small bladed screw driver up the side of the cli and the rod, as your doing that, twist the rod and it should come free on one side.

repeat on the other side of the clip taking care not to refit the side you've just freed.

Putting it back on is simple, fit the clip to the rod and push it on the pin.

Thanks for that, I have another van thats silent, this one driving me mad.
The lower bar is definately bent, by the threaded bit at the bottom, by about 10-15 degrees. I know the bars are cranked down the length, but this is bent. There's also a big dent on the inside of that door, possibly caused by a loose cement mixer....
Info on getting the clips off gratefully recieved.
