i know its not a ford transit, but all the workings are......wondered if the prop shaft would cause vibration at around 40mph?

It certainly shouldn't! :P
You pay LDV money you have to expect LDV quality!
What makes you think it's the prop shaft?

Good motors :) especialy after they got rid of the french engine and put a Di in em :D .
I take it the vibration is through the box/gearstick? check the inner rear tyres if it's a twin wheeler (lost count of how many inner tyres have gone and i havn't noticed)
The balence weight may have come off the prop or a rubber mount may have gone on the box or engine.
Get under and grab the prop and give a good hard wiggle to check the centre bearing doesn't have loads of free play.

gotta agree with Bortaf here, LDVare a good motor, well the convoy is forget that nasty pilot thing, Ford power convoy is great, no frills working mans motor, as Bortaf says, check the tyres for defects as this could well be the problem, love the Convoy m,yself( got 3 of me own  )

A prop shaft universal joint could well cause a vibration at almost any road speed it likes depending on the degree of wear.

It's usually accompanied with a clonk noise when taking up the drive too, but then again you could have one thats seized in one direction.

drop the prop and check them for movement and tightness.

The reason i say it would leave my transit for dead is,I had the LDV for four years without any trouble, laoded to 3.5t everyday of the year.I have my transit turbo diesel 1 year and so far.
2 Electric injector pumps
4 Injectors
1 Turbo
1 Ecu
1 Gearbox
1 Alternator
1 Starter motor
2 Back doors [rot]
I like my transit it is more comfortable than the LDV +has heating that works and electric windows.I had a drive in my friends new LDV Maxus and what a motor that is,but i'm afraid i have to hold on to my good ole transit for a few more years
