Intermittant wiper problems

Postby themadscotsman » Sat Feb 11, 2006 1:59 pm

Hello All,

I have a 1993 2.5Di Transit which has a fault with the intermittant wiper.
It works fine on normal or fast speeds but nothing at all on intermittant.

I bought a motor on ebay which was apparently good and I have replaced the relay last week but still nothing. Could there be a problem with the control stalk? I have seen a few on ebay which I was thinking of buying but I do not want to be wasting my money unnecessarily.

All advice gratefully received

Can you hear the relay clicking at timed intervals? if not then its probably not getting a feed from the stalk or could be a bad/no earth to the relay. If you have changed the motor and relay then it leaves you with stalk or wiring. :?

this happened on one of mine and it was a wire break just after the mulitplug connecter to the loom!
infact it was broke so close it couldn't be repaired - had to bypass the multiplug! think it was a green wire but i might be wrong! :?

Doh!!

I found the source of the problem. after pulling the fusebox out to check for any loose wires feeding the relay I discovered that the relay was in the wrong slot. It has always been in the same place since I bought it and assumed it was correct even thought the wiper had never worked.
It was only when I had the fusebox in a better light that I seen the socket identifier and related it to the drawing inside the cover. I thought I had checked this before but must have overlooked it.
I feel like a div for all the time and money I've spent trying a new motor and relay when it was the simplest fix.
Glad I didn't buy that new control stalk now.

Thanks for all advice anyway. :D

Don't feel so bad I did the same thing, except I didn't buy any new parts, it got fixed when I went to an actually friendly dealers to buy a new relay and the guy on the counter said they can be all different kinds (the relays)and often in different positions, he found an orginal Ford handbook for the year (86 petrol) and sure enough the relay was there in the slots next to where it should have been.
