radio wiring 1993 transit

Postby dazza » Sat Feb 25, 2006 12:51 pm

hi, recently had my aftermarket stereo stolen from my transit. i didnt wire this one up, it was already in it when i bought it. now im faced with a mess of wires. i think i know the speakers ( a bundle of 4), but can any one help with the others. i was hoping for a red and a black to make things easy, but ive got one red & orange wire, 1 yellow, 1 green & grey and 2 brown wires - one thick, 1 thin, and they both go into a metal plug ending. its not the aerial coz i can locate that one.
anyone got any ideas on which one would be + and which one -????

thanks if anyone can help.

Brown = earth.

Yellow = either permanent power or switched power.

Orange/red = the opposite of above. (a voltmeter would make life easier but if not then theses two can be swapped over if you dont get the desired effect).

Green/grey = dimming for the stereo lights when the headlights are on if I'm not mistaken, this wont be needed for an aftermarket unit.

Security. Think about fitting deadlocks. And grilles at the windows. Or welding them shut with steel plate. Oh wait, then you won't be able too see out, maybe not. Been sat at the computer too long, I think. Time for dinner......

If no voltmeter is available, use a small bulb, like a side repeater bulb, with some wires stuck to it.
Brown is always negative on all Fords.
Speakers wires have to be correct, otherwise the cone will suck instead of pushing, and will sound cack
