Mk1: 5 speed?

Postby ericford » Wed Apr 13, 2005 6:40 pm

Hi, everybody...is it possible to use a 5 gearbox on a Mk1 1500 V4 petrol engine? Now i've an original 4 speed-gearbox, but it's too loud when i drive in highway... :?:

hi ericford it would be better for you to change your axle ratio so it would give you better speed ,changeing the box will be hard to do and find! hope this helps you .mark

Thanks a lot! My differential is quite damaged (loud over 80 km/h), if i change it i make the perfect solution! but now i'm in searching for a correct axle ratio...wich model can i use it?

eric what van have you got ??? short or long wheelbase????? if you are running a short wheel trany, then the best diff for you would be 4.11 or 4.56 ,i would think you will have a high number in yours 5.63 or maybe even higher! my twin wheel was5.83  and 80km was its max , i have now a 4.63 and it will do 100km with the wind behind it! :D

axle ratio

Postby ericford » Fri Apr 15, 2005 8:36 am

i've a short base, single wheel, 1.5 v4 petrol engine, i don't know the axle ratio...maximum speed (by tachometer) it's about 120 km/h, but i drive it in highway about at 100 km/h, differential conditions: bad conditions (loud)...i will change it, but i can use a different? i've some problems to find my parts, and if i use a different kind it's a better solution for speed
