Help....New Member with Mileage Problem

Postby jonb1kenobi » Wed Mar 08, 2006 8:30 pm

Hi all

I have just purchased a transit van, drove it home (98 miles) and the mileage counter has only budged 1 mile.

Its a V reg 1999, transit 80 SWB (2496cc). Any suggestions on what I can do ?
Thanks
JON

weve got this problem at the moment also our speedo dont work we have ordered a new cable :) but being a 99 yours will be electric speedo i think so no idea :( check and see first :?
You only need two tools in life: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the duct tape.

Electric or not the milage counters are manually moved...always assuming that the speedo was registering your travelling speed.
I hope you have MOT's supporting the alledged milage as I reckon someone has had a fiddle otherwise.

My 98 LWB tranny has the same problem, speed reading low, never over Km per hour but for when the zero comes up at the start of a new kilometre, do a 400 km trip and get 360km on the clock.

I suspect the mechanical side of the speedo (Electric) has been tampered with, perhaps an attempt to wind it back, who knows.

Is your speed reading about right?
