mk1 overdrive unit and gearbox

Does anyone know what wiring up a mk1 overdrive unit involves and does the mk1 gearbox mounting have to be moved as well as shortening the prop somewhat?

Sixwheelphil should know, he's fitted plenty of OD boxes, though not sure if he's domne one in a Mk1.

Thanks for that Fred Im still on the quest for more relaxed revs for my pinto when it goes in next month.

Even if he hasn't done one on a Mk1, I am sure the priciple is the same (like I would know)

I think the mk2 has a removeable crossmember and the mk1 has an underslung welded mount?

Good point, I had forgot about that. Maybe you can weld on the mounting bracket, to a Mk2 box.

Yes you probably could ,I ve got the chance of obtaining a mk1 unit and as the gearbox mount is going to be moved when I go pinto ijust wondered whether fomoco used a crossflow gbox mounting for the v4 with od. This makes it a bit more complicated fitting the od box to my pinto fitted exv4 flat fronted van as I was using the extra room for cooling stuff.Donor mk1 is ex crossflow

if you have the old style gearbox mount then its no good, you will have to get the overdrive crossmember that fits the overdrive box! and the overdrive propshaft!!
