not having much luck matching up the sizes, the crown wheel size is the same as Dana 44, but the axle casing of the american dana 44 doesn't look like a transit mk7 dana axle, its almost like ford made or had their own axles made to take dana internals, will keep looking
ok, so last night a went to see a transit friend of mine, i believe he is on here somewhere, and we measured a mk8 axle with the same wheels on as my mk6 van, so a like for like comparison, and it turned out the the mk8 axle is no more than 2 inches wider than a mk6, so should just about fit under the arch with the right wheels, great news for faster transits as the mk8 axle has LSD option, and lots of ratio option
I have a 2004 twin rear wheel axled transit crew cab pickup, can some one tell me what the diameter of the axle tube is close to the leaf spring saddle, i have an air bag kit to go on and need to fab up some brackets to go over the round axle tube with flat plate on top.
It's a Dana 60 full floating axle should be able to Google the info if you can't measure your own? Or at least get a close guestimate.

The obvious axles to use would be MK3 but even the twin wheeler only had 14" wheels . You're going to struggle to get the later independent front suspension hubs to fit your beam axle but if you managed it, you could go upto 16" if you redrilled Mk6/7/ 8 wheels. It would steal a fair bit of your payload too!
Transit Custom use 15" single wheels which might fit MK2 if you use larger wheel nuts but you won't know for sure without trying one. The are cheap enough on eBay.
It may be neat between the arches for fitting your twin wheels across the centre.
Why do you want to change from single to twin?

Well, I want to fill those rear wheel arches with rubber, don't like the rear wheels set so far in, and I'd like uprated springs etc to raise the ride height on this MK2 motorhome. 2.0 litre Pinto.
We plan to do a long travel to parts of the world where the roads are little better than rocky tracks (You only have to go as far as Greece in fact!). Would like some AT tyres on there too.
