Speed pulse signal

Postby Baggers » Fri Mar 24, 2006 11:30 am

 Hello everyone. This is my first post on this site and I am hoping that someone can help me. I have an 05 MK 6 SWB 125ps and need to know details of the speed pulse signal for vehicle speed. I have bought a Pioneer satnav unit and it requires an input for vehicle speed.I would like to know the best point to tap into the cable and the respective colour coding.
If anyone knows,I would appreciate it,
Thanks :?:

Speed sensor

Postby Baggers » Fri Mar 24, 2006 2:37 pm

Thanks daddy cool. I had already found that item in the forum. It details the connector details on the VSS itself(vehicle speed sensor)which is mounted on the gearbox. I really wanted to connect my unit inside the van, preferably behind the instrument cluster.
Thanks once again, Baggers.

Hang on, I thought sat nav would tell you your speed.

The dash on yours is the electronic item and the wiring harness isn't that easy to get at and the connector is a small affair.

The speed signal to the dash is sent from the engine management module, it is possible to find the wiring where it comes back through the bulkhead into the cab area.

There used to be a grey plug below the central junction box with a jumper wire in, that was where the tachograph option took it's feed from, not sure if it was left there on later vehicles though.

Once you know the signal from the Vss you can trace the cable back and go from there.

Hello again everybody and thanks for the replies.
oldsaltoz. Satnav does tell your speed, but the Pioneer AVIC-X1R uses both and the reason being is for when you go in a tunnel or next to tall buildings, trees etc etc.
Nighthawk. Thanks for the info, I will check it out and let you know how I get on.
Regards, Baggers.

With this above information in mind could you go through this thread and then possibly answer if the plugs I have found (in my last post) are the same...also add anything that needs to be added to the thread

speed pulse signal

Postby Baggers » Wed Mar 29, 2006 12:38 am

Hello again everyone. Thought that I would let you know how I got on if anyone is interested. I removed the instrument cluster and a couple of wires now look as if mice have had a go!!!!
Using the TIS and what people have told me,I worked out that the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) which is on the gearbox has three wires on it. Pin 3 is orange and is the power supply, pin 2 is white and blue and is the speed + input into the PCM (powertrain control module)and pin 1 is brown and blue and is the speed- into the PCM. There is a connector (C6). in between the VSS and PCM which is the main engine connector on the LH of engine compartment in front of the jump start point. I split this connector and the white and blue lead goes into pin 13 on this connector. I connected my sat nav unit to this lead and bugger me, it works!!!!!!!
I am a happy bunny now and the stress levels are returning to normal. Thanks to everyone who posted replies and I hope that this info will be useful to someone in the future.
Cheers, Baggers.( :D :D
