viscious fan removal

how do i get the viscious fan to stop turning when trying to remove it? been to halfords and got me a spanner, just cant get it to crack lose and the rear hub i cant stop turning......Elp :!: think im gonna turn into the hulk, its chucking it down, me and all my tools are wet and i just slipped, leaving an inch of skin on the alternator fan :cry:

What I normally do is use a set of soft grip moles, clamp the pulley and give the spanner a whack with a copper hammer.

One alternative is an oil filter chain, I'm sure you can figure out where I'm going with that one.

ive done it with a hammer and a punch to shock it of , it came off staright away :D

plenty off lage smacks with a hammer , and try and hold the pully somehow behind! they are a pain in the arse, oh and also watch the sencor on top dont damage that! :?

thanks for all the input lads, Stuck a spanner in behind the pulley, twated the viscious spanner and she went like a good-un
I think it was a job done in vain though! I thought it was the water pump squeeling like a pig, so i've changed it today, Only to put it all back together and hey presto.......it still squeels like a pig :roll:
Definatly not the belts as they have also been changed. Humm, maybe the alternator? I'll leave it there :lol:

always take the belts off first and start it to see if the noise goes away, does it do it all the while or only when you first start it??

I cant remember now :roll: I think its all the time but does seem to do it louder when its cold outside....you know when you get up early in the morning and everybody's in bed, i start my van and its squeaking along with the normal chugging of the engine. Its like a wake-up call to everyone in the lane! :roll: :shock: :shock:
