I Bought an ex police van. GVW on v5 said 3500kg. on the vin it said 3950kg . Explain that!! The thing weighed in at around 2750 empty. And it had seats and a steel cage in the back. Fully loaded with coppers. It was definitely over 3500kg.
Add an extra leaf on the back. and all your worries will disappear away
With all honesty. Your net payload with 2 passengers, fuel and tools etc. Will likely be in the 750kg region.
Goodluck staying within the law

They will allow 10% over your gross weight before they consider prosecution if it is your first offence but usually they will want you to unload it down to or below the gross weight before they will allow you to carry on with your journey and that will mean leaving stuff at the roadside or getting someone to come down and take the stuff for you, if you do the latter then whoever you get to pick your stuff up will also have their vehicle weighed.to ensure they are also not overloaded! I would think they would let you off if you were say 50kg over, but never assume where the law is concerned.

That's a common misconception, you MUST have a waste carrying license, even if you are a tradesman
