Postby jay » Tue Apr 04, 2006 4:25 pm

How do I remove the studs from my mk3 1989 luton twin wheel..I have got a snapped stud and the rest on the same axle dont look to great.
do I just heat the hub up and whack the stud towards the diff casing direction?

the heads on the bolts on the van are ok on the rest of the axles its just on one wheel only..the left side rear felt like a gorrila had done them up..I had to heat them up and 4 came off ok using a 10 foot scaffold bar and 1 had a mashed up head that i cut off and one snapped...so i need 2 studs but i thought i may as well do all 6..dont fancy any snapping off when at the side of the road...

i remember 4 yrs back we had just had new tyres on the van and heading up to scotland got up the m6 and we got a puncture oh well we tried changing it but snapped the ford brace in half :x ended up getting towed to the local ford place who snapped all 6 studs trying to get the wheel off  6 studs later we were back on the road but before we left there we got a melco wheel brace 2 part it's huge and undoes the tightest of wheel nuts 8) 8)

we used to have a works iveco and i took it for new tyre fitted, and i said to the guy fitting it can you tighten it up with the wrench not the air gun and he said it dosnt matter its done to a set torque and proceded to show me - what he didnt realsie was that he was overtightening it with the air gun and as soon as he put the torque wrench on it just went click  and he said see thats now at the correct torque!!

i tried to explain but he didnt get it  so i just put a scaff bar in the back of the cab

twin wheel studs

Postby bunston2005 » Tue Apr 04, 2006 8:13 pm

hi there its easy to do slacken off the handbrake adjusting bar pull out the rubber gromets in the backing plate they are oval shaped flat head screwdriver push the shoes back undo the retaining screws these should be big slotted screws put the wheels back on and pinch up the bolts then pull side to side and top to bottom and eventually the drum will come off. Undo the wheel nuts and hit out the studs from the drum or hub. Replacing is just the opposite. I know ths works as i have done this on my old transit 110 twin wheel and the whole job only took about an hour. any problems and give us a ring on 07891599910 im happy to help by the way a full set of studs and nuts will cost you about £60 from fords you may have to order them as i had to. steve

What's a spigot rim and how many different types are there altogether?
1973 drw; Falcon 250 c.i.; 12v fuel pump; belt-driven water pump & fan replaced with 12v water pump & two 12" fans; T5 gearbox; Mark II front discs.

Yeah, right. So that would explain why one of our passenger side front wheels worked loose on our Mk1 on Regant St once. I know the idea behind why this is done, but don't see anybody else's wheels falling off, and don't the new twin wheelers have all the wheel nuts going the same way now?
