towing

Postby Lightweight Nat » Sat Apr 08, 2006 8:54 pm

Hi there, i've just bought a swb 2.5 di van, i think it's a mk III.

It's got a towbar, i'm guessing transits make pretty good tow vehicles being big and heavy and relatively torquey. I need to tow a Land Rover discovery from York to North Suffolk, would my transit be a suitable tow vehicle?

Would it tow best with the back of the van totally empty or would it actually be better to put a bit of weight in? :?:

thanks,
Nat

when u say towing do you mean tow rope or trailer..I assume trailer with a twin wheel car transporter will be fine..but would ride better with a bit of weight in the van..make sure you licence covers you to tow a trailer..licence after 1997 and you will be fine..

Yes sorry, a trailer setup, towing a 2.5 ton motor over 200 miles on a rope is not my idea of a nice weekend! :o

My 2.5tdi ('99) tows a 2.5ton dive boat the length and breath of Ireland with no problems.
I do have to drop the gears to get over the mountains in Cork, but she's a great puller.:)
Dublin is full of Tranny's pulling Small Diggers on Trailers, doesn't seem to bother them.
