Timing peg sizes.......anyone got a Vernier caliper?

Postby noiseman » Mon Apr 10, 2006 11:44 pm

Hi all.

Can anyone tell me the diameters of the timing pegs used on a 2.5 di turbo?

I have borrowed some before but this is not an option this time.
I have access to a toolroom with a range of accurate tool steel rod.

Thought about making some of my own rather than paying for a full kit to do a range of engines I will never own.

Any help appreciated.
If it goes, then it's good!!

Drill bits for me; 13mm=crankshaft
8mm=camshaft
then either 6 or 9mm for pump depending on year/Bosch/Lucaas.
Try a 6mm for your Lucas pump

3 drill bits of the correct size are all you need

Imperial isn't dead, the last to jobs I had everything was imperial. Mainly due to the equipment being from America, every now and a again I get to work with whitworth.

On the subject of imperial etc some of you might find this useful for the future. Right click and choose 'save target as' on the words 'Download Here' below.

Download Here

Changed the layout to be clearer, so if you already downloaded this file do it again as it will be a heck of lot easier to read.

I used to work as a toolmaker and we had drawings come through the door marked-up with such amusing specs as " drill Ø 1/2" x 25mm deep.
Hows that for a mixed up system!!

if you use a pin which is too small in dia in the flywheel, you can get it in the wrong hole. the bitch will never start. the 2 holes are about an inch or so apart.
