Fault codes

Postby fumbduck » Thu Nov 05, 2009 7:38 am

Finally had a chance to get the errors read on my 2004 VH Transit (with ASM or Durashift as you guys call it)
with the following result
P0606- Transmission control module processor error
P0717- ISS Open circuit
P0810- Clutch position control error
P0812- Driver interface reverse push button
P0909- Gate Secret position control error
P0919- Gear shift position control error
P02711- Unexpected mechanical gear disengagement
B1319- Drivers door switch malfunction
U1900- Can communication bus fault
Requires further diagnosis for ASM transmission fault or wiring harness fault.

The reason I wanted to get the error codes read was because I had a flashing transmission warning light flickering on my dash for the last few months now. I did go to a couple of auto electricians but they reported no faults at all. This time it was done by the local Ford dealer and obviously only their equipment can read this thing properly.
The van drives fine but I do remember once having a problem with the gears not shifting back down. That was a couple of months ago now and it hasn't happened since.
Can some of you guys explain some of these faults to me or is there a table I can look them up on?
I do have a TIS copy but I'm pretty sure they're not mentioned on there.

PS I also wonder if some of these errors had to do with the break in my rear door harness which caused my central locking to fail. (that's fixed now but I wonder if there's another problem related to that since when I use my rear wipers on intermittent, the interior light in the cabin comes on for a second when the wipers do their sweep) :?

Your rear door problem may not be helping, cos i'm sure the asm module gets an input to tell it if doors are open or closed(tho i could be wrong) but certainly if its makin the interior light come on with the wiper, there seems to still be a fault, an earth fault

Thanks ake,
I will have to check out the wiring loom again to see what's going on.
Seems ok atm though, they have reset the ECU and the warning light is gone.
You would think that if the problem was still there that the warning light would start flashing again. Is my line of thinking right there? (< hard to do when you're a fumbduck)

Seems the fault with the interior light flashing on with the rear wipers must have been fixed by resetting the ECU as it doesn't do that anymore. :)
But I have had twice now that I've started the car and driven off and noticed a lack of power. The looking at the dash I noticed the glow light flashing. Been able to stop that both times by turning the ignition off and then restarting the car.

Update again,
Ended up buying a code reader on ebayhttp://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... TQ:GB:1123
A little plug for the seller, he gave superb service.
I had a problem initially to get it to connect but upon checking the Com port in device manager it had allocated a comport to the reader which was out of the range of the software (1-8). Before I found that out though the seller emailed me an updated version of the software.
After connecting properly I had the following codes read
P0409 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor A Circuit
P0404 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Control Circuit Range/Performance (<this one appeared twice)

So from this is it as simple as replacing a sensor and if so which one(s)?
I've recently blocked off the EGR valve in the hope to make this silly limp mode light go away but it hasn't worked.
Usually I can make it disappear however by restarting the engine.
Another thing too, when I blanked the EGR valve I just put some fairly heavy duty gasket material in there (like exhaust gasket) but never bothered to clean the valve. Should I clean it anyway?
In the last couple of weeks the van has also developed a whooshing sound when accelerating (only when it's hot).
I read someone else on here had a similar problem and it turned out to be a hole in the manifold.
I've had a look but haven't found anything yet.
The hard thing checking this is that it only seems to do it under revs AND load, not just under high revs.
Sorry about the long winded post but just trying to give as much info as possible.

The egr is faulty and showing a fault, if it is blanked you may just be able to clean it up and get it to clear
