Glow Plug circuit draining battery

Postby Lee J » Fri May 05, 2006 11:37 am

something on the glow plug circuit is draining 9.98amps from the battery with everything switched off. It took about 2 hours to completly flatten a new bosch heavy duty battery - ouch!

So, I removed the glow plug relay and it cured it.

ANy ideas to what could be causing it to do this. It's just had a brand new relay last month.

Assuming the relay is good..being new that seems to be correct what is after the relay? The glow plugs themselves, so that is the problem...I am sure someone else not too long ago found this to be the problem with a flattened battery.

The glow plugs cant be causing it because they are fed by the relay. Its almost as if your ignition is staying on? Have you got an after market alarm on the van? It could be possible that its wired incorrectly causing a live feed to the relay all the time or possibly only when the alarm is on or off? :?

If taking the realy out fixes it I would check to see it the relay is getting a signal or if it's stuck closed! As i've said before Lee get yourself a multimeter and check if you have 12 volts at 2 of the terminals, if you have then the relay is getting a feed from somewhere if you only have 12 volts at one terminal the it's the relay!
