squashed pipe

the pipe that goes from the top of the radiator to the thermostat housing looks like its squeezed and when the expansion cap is opened the pipe opens out a bit.

what causes that?

As the cooling system gets cold it cotracts and forms a partial vacuum so sucking in the pipe. Check that you have the correct cap on the resevoir bottle.
Not sure but it may have a vent valve in it to stop this problem.
