ohc lc/hc

Postby paul » Mon May 08, 2006 7:31 pm

hi ifitted an mt75 gearbox to a mk3 2l ohc when i drove up the road i had
no power it must be a coincedent idone a compresion test and found
90psi so striped the engine boars worne and it smoked some times
(whight) its got a crack in number 3 cylinder i managed to find an engine
sat in someones garden with no head on it for wot looked like 5 years or
more its all standered it was out of a cortina my rings are worn on my
engine whitch is 030 oversize bore but my pistons are like new i have
cleaned up the new block (i felt like i was restoring a steemengine)
and its not bad ready for a reboar .
my old pistions 030 are 1mm lower from gugon pin to top is this the
differnce between lc and hc my cam shaft is H29 the cranks and rods
are the same i was told lc engine was to run on lower grade fuel
i want to build wot ever is best for my vehicle whitch is a coachbuilt
camper now with a higher ratio gearbox
i would rebuild it with my old pistons as there like new and put ne rings on
them but if i will have a better engine with taller pistons i will go for them
but dont know about hitting the vaves?

paul you wont gain by haveing a hc engine, the transit realy needs the lc if its pulling a big body around! ,a wile ago we used a cortina bottom end with a trainsit head it lasted about 100 miles and then melted a piston! so what went wrong there i dont know! it was all new! so we put a 2ltr lc in and thats been in there for around 8yr or more!
