fuses blowing?

Postby peterquinn » Sun Dec 27, 2009 12:39 pm

I have a mark 6 Transit and have just fitted some new side lights to it. I was picking some friends up from Manchester airport lastnight when on the way back my lights blew and nothing but main beam would work or fog lights.
I rang the rac and they came out and disconnected the lights i had put up to ulliminate any problems as well as the tow lead, but they still decided to blow the fuse even without them connected, I have gone to the manual and refered to fuses and amp specification and replaced them with factory recomended amp strength fuses, but as soon as i put the side lights on they still blow. If anyone has any answers i would be most greatful, connections were water tight and well insulated.

If you are sure that it is nothing you have done when fitting the extra lamps then I would start by checking the wiring loom at the front. It is quite common for the loom to rub on the chassis leg or inner wing and rub through the insulation causing a short.

Also check in the back (presuming its a van) that the ply lining screws aren't into the loom
