The Mk2s used to do this, but not at two years old. I am shocked and stunned. I was always lead to believe from the Mk2s that this was down to maintenence, and how the door was used. We are planning a one piece (or rather a horizontal two piece) on our stretch, and looked at a hell of a lot of scrappers with this type of door before we found one without tiny cracks. I have always taken this as being a design fault too, when you think about it you are taking a big heavy piece of metal (lower door) and pivoting it on a little piece of metal (window frame) Is this ever gonna stop? What do Ford think they are playing at? You would expect a bit more of life from something that cost you 1000s....................

Best of luck MrTM, give em hell! I know I would. If no joy, go to the CAB or Trading Standards, there is such a thing as 'Merchantable Quality, which means an item has to be of suitable quality for the job it's made for. Sale of goods act, 1981 I think (could be wrong about the year, check with trading standards)

Fords V Mercs

Postby baconsdozen » Wed May 04, 2005 5:31 pm

Hello All.My other van is an old Merc 307D.A few years back the exhaust down pipe split and I couldn't get one anywhere. In those days I used the van everyday and driving it sounding like a dragster was a bit worrying in terms of attracting the Old Bill.More as a joke than anything I faxed Mercedes in Germany pointing out that my van was only just over 20 years old and had done only about 350,000 miles.I told them I'd already had to adjust the brakes a few times, pump the tyres up and change the oil and now the exhaust had split. Two days later a pipe was delivered to the local dealer via Norwich airport along with an note from Mercedes saying that as a good will gesture they had waived any charge.I've not tried the same thing again when other bits have fell off or worn out and the van (like me) has now seen better days but I still use it every so often.I'm sure that because I've repeated this story to others over the years Mercedes have gained something out of it,you could always bore your Ford dealer silly with this little tale, maybe Ford themselves might be interested in copying a little bit of German customer relations.Vorsprung durch technik and all that.
