ford transit gear box problem

Postby brianset » Sun Jan 03, 2010 8:52 pm

hi i have a 03 transit 2ltr durotec fwd swb, my problem is it wont select any gears the gearstick just moves freely. i lifted the bonnet and by moving the selector at the gearbox i managed to find a gear and got it home. question does this sound like the gear linkage cable has snapped? have had no problem with it till today and it just went without warning. if so how easy/hard is it to change if this is the problem??

its quite easy. At least the problem is between the stick and the box and not in it!

Might be that one of the cables has come off.

the gear stick i forgot to mention just moves backwards and forwards and doesnt seem to select a gear at all, would this account for a cable snapped?

No you did mention it, that's why I said maybe one of the cables has come off.

if you can move it foward and back but not side to side it could also be the selector thats seized.

very cheap to repair do a search theres loads on it.
