Tipper body floor material

Postby dazrecoverymad » Thu Jan 07, 2010 2:36 pm

i am currently trying to shave some weight off my tipper body which has a steel underbody alloy frame and sides/BUT the floor is something like 3 sheets of 1.5mm steel over the top of 3 quater inch ply /is there any way of removing it and changing it for something lighter in its place bear in mind ,it has to still be strong enough to take weight ,my previous truck had some sort of aluminium flooe looked like it was made in thin pices and all locked together .also how much weight would i be lightley to save/
the truck currently weighs 2200kg im desperate to get it down to 1900 if that is at all possible .

im currently removing large amber light 50kg?
bulky towbar 40kg?
passenger seat 40kg?

What do you use the tipper for ie what sort of stuff goes in the back and how do you load it

use it for sand and aggregates it is generally loaded by a digger or jcb dropping the sand or aggregates in to the back from about 2 meteres above the bed

Is there any specific reason you want to reduce weight? I presume it's to do with payload?

You could try Alu checkerplate but it's not cheap. A 3m x 1.5m sheet 1/4" thick would probably set you back about £400.

If you are getting rid of your light bar, could you post a pic? I may be interested.
