problem charging

hi can anone help i have transit 2.4 year 2003 its the jumbo i had new glow plugs fitted the other day the garage recommended me to change battery also so i did this morning the van started ok i left house drove about six miles to m8s and had coffee and chat about 1 hour then went outto start van for return home battery dead his is the new one started van after tow made a loud rattle when started then sounded ok tryed wipers they ran really slow put van on the heard anothe rattle then turnd them off after about three seconds van sounded ok got to garage were i had new plugs fitted askedhim to check it said they is not enough chare going to battery but ok before i said he said think you need altnator could this be anything else anyon is it possible new battery no good

if you can get hold of a volt meter check power at battery with engine running should be appx 13.5 14.5v if charging if problem has only arrived since glow plugs were changed plus battery i would carefully check all connections that were disturbed plus check the main heavy duty fuses incase one has blown whilst work was carried out ggod luck
