2000 Transit 2.5D cold start virtually all the time

Postby libellule1uk » Thu Jan 14, 2010 9:17 am

I bought an ex company V reg tranist in October, ran fine, then had new starter motor, all fine, cold weather starts the cold start problem. It had been through a full service before hand (£450 worth) so I trusted it. However, its a git to start and most days I have to jump it. There is also another tray present for another battery and Im wondering if this is needed? How would I fit another, there are no cables etc. I have fitted a new battery (ford spec) and still nothing changed. I need to use the van for long trips sometimes and today she is dead even after an attempted jump. She isnt even turning now. Please help! Female van driver Self employed and losing business fast.....

Did you try the stuff that Mike pointed you too :?: :?:

Is it ok after the first time you start it or is it just all the time :?: could be worth checking your earth strap and your connections to starter motor and clean them up

Feed us a little more detail and we can help you out

I have had my 1999 diesel transit since it was 18 months old in the winters i have always had starting problems (OK in the summer) i have had new battery's fitted, several ! but come end of October here we go again so 2 years ago i went to machine mart and bought a starter charger £140, then i fitted an outside 240 volt socket and every cold morning form October to March i put the leads on the battery plug in the starter charger switch to max jump in van and it spins it over so fast starts perfect..( it does piss me off a bit thoe)Still i will soon be looking to update to about a 2006 one,, my transit has just gone into 60,000 miles now..
Ford Transit 280 SWB,,Year 2008,,2.2,, If it can,t be fixed/repaired/ with a 4 pound lump hammer then it must be an electrical problem.

Shes going again! Guess what? New Starter was faulty, so now she rides again...fingers crossed. Still considering another battery though, where does it attach? does it go on to the main battery?

Check the connections on the start motor end cause even tho they've replaced they could still be dirty but working cause they have been disconected and reconnected.
