engine number

hi to you all,

I recently brought a 1994, Transit 150 custom LWB, It has a 2.0L Petrol engine.
After waiting almost 5 weeks for the return of the registration document I got a letter from DVLA requesting further info.
They have asked for the engine number amongst other things.I have had a look and found 2 sets of number's embossed on the left hand side of the engine as I look from the front of the van, one is to the rear of the engine the other is much closer to the front.
Can anyone tell me which number is the corect one. How many letters and or numbers there should be ?.

Engine number is the last 7 characters of the chassis number, this consists of 2 letters and 5 numbers.
