Intermittent engine fault

Postby climbingchris » Mon May 15, 2006 12:02 pm

I'm having trouble with my 2.5Di at the moment, one minute it's running great and pulls like a train, then it runs really lumpy and looses power.

I've recently changed the fuel and air filters, not got round to doing the oil yet, and timing belt.

From reading through the archives on here it sounds like a lift pump problem, Is this built into the injector pump assembly?

I'm new to diesels, so it's back on to the steep learning curve.

Cheers

lift pump will be under/alongside exhaust manifold :D if you have one fitted :D is yours n/a or turbo???
You only need two tools in life: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the duct tape.

It's n/a .

I've fiddled a bit withthe fuel filter and it seems to be seated properly.

Has anyone got a pic of the lift pump so I can see what i'm looking for?

Well I've followed the fuel line from the tank to the injector pump and there's no other pumps in it.

The RAC came out to us today as it lost all power again, turns out it was only running on cylinders 1 & 2 counting from the front of the block.

RAC man thinks it's probably the injector pump on its way out. How do I find out for sure?

And what sort of price am I looking at for one?

Thanks
Chris
