Basically my clutch same as other poeples was creaping in gear when foot all way down on clutch, it was hard to select any gear and crunched occasionally and was just getting worse.

I bought the cheap option first the cable and adjuster removed the clutch pedal which was easy no tools required! changed just the ratchet and didnt do anything in fact i had no gears at all and couldnt get it into any gears so i was determined to get it fixed tonight as i was going on a long journey tomorrow first thing, so took pedal out again used bits of the old unit i.e the spring was slightly different so used the old one put it all back together in the dark, still couldnt select gears.

Thought thats enough messing around i will change the cable did that wasnt too difficult rubber bumg a pain but a bit of UB40 and went in fine, i then saw under the clutch pedal a rubber bung when you press pedal down it stops on the bumg so i removed that to get a extras few milimeteres movement, i then removed clutch pedal again and made sure the adjuster was correct changed something around as it fell apart taking it off so didnt know how it went back together moved something else a different way, i also used a bit of cable in the groove as earlier explained to give a bit more clearance put it back together and seemed to have a clutch.

Just drove it up the road and perfect the best its ever driven it bited just under half way, no creaping lovely well impressed and worth the struggle and two and a half hours doing it!

and here it is with a massive proabably overloaded merc on the back but glad it fitted its on its way to the breakers yard tomorrow just been given it by a customer who bought a car from me

Noob first post, so be gentle please.

I've got ratchet problems and want to try the replacement parts I've already sourced for my 'new' '92 2.5DI LWB. I'm a heavy handed lump and don't want to break anything down there, but I can't disconnect the clutch pedal pivot retaining clip. Everything suggests it's a matter of minutes to do the switch - if you can get the pedal off in the first place.

Do I need to drive the pedal retaining clip off with a solid drift and a hammer or pull it off with a maniacal grip on some pliers?

I'm confused 'cos I couldn't work out how to budge it yesterday without the application of possibly excessive force but the thread starter suggests they were able to remove it by hand without tools.

Help!
