hi there , sounds like belt squeeling , tensioner pulley bearing  , why does it need glow plugs? , the 2.4 engine will start ok without them

They said when gets cold takes a while to start but will start eventually that's why they said heating plugs need changing,
as for belt noise doesn't sound like that he did say that it was coming from the alternator but he said it was charging
fine with no problems. Thanks for your comment and help

sounds like the bearings in the alt are done for if thats where the noise is from

have a search in the forums for "glow plugs" there are a few faults that show up , one is the feed wire from the battery burning out due to a short through a faulty glow plug

with the weather as it is now above freezing the van should start first turn of key without glow plugs , the problem with new glow plugs is not the price its getting the old ones out , they have a habbit of snapping off in the head , as for the noise, take the belt off and start the van if the noise is still there that rules out all the pulleys on the front including alternator
