Wing Mirror question - mk1 Camper

Postby Sooziem » Mon May 02, 2005 7:57 pm

Hi, apologies if this is a stupid question - we've just bought a mk1 transit camper and are still learning!

The van has beautiful crome wing mirrors but is parked near the city centre and someone pulled off the drivers side wing mirror on Friday  . We've got all the parts and thankfully no real damage done but I wondered if it's possible to get less 'obvious' mirrors to use every day and put the crome ones on when we're away for trips?

Any suggestions welcome - cheers!

the problem is there isnt much you could fit in the hole on the wing, maybe some sort of other classic mirror, may fit the hole and as you say change them when you go to shows! i cant put the chrome ones on mine as i will have to many holes in the wings! :( mine has these big adjustable thing on it ,and i am shure people will catch them! :(

if you don't mind a few more little holes, you can fit MK2 mirrors or ones off a sherpa of the same age. They are both easy to fit with self tapping screws. You can still get the glass for the Mk2 (I had to order them though), but the frame for it is no longer available, so protect them with your life! The sherpa heads are made of plastic with real glass mirrors, but hardly ever break.

wing mirrors

I think I would be buying an old set the same as the one you have. then fitting them and changing them when going somewhere nice. We do see old mirrors all the time at Auto jumbles. Might be worth thinking about that option.

My mirrors got snapped off my mk1 (football on the street :( ) also my ariel!!! so i didn't bother untill MOT time then i found out as a pre 78 i only needed 1 mirror - interior one!! :D so i didnt bother replacing one untill years later (then i cracked it :( ) - it wasn't a problem cos i had windows in the rear - bit of a pain when reversing the trailer though!!!
