JUST Blown my engine i think

was travelling down the road at approx 30mph.1997 transit bannana engine.and all the lights came on dash board tried to bump start (nothing )pulled over and tried to start from the key and the engine dosent sound as it normaly does/sounds more like a bag of spanners /im wondering if the cam belt has snapped i will have to investgate tommorow. if its knackerd it maybee turbo diesel time /

Broken cambelt isn't really much of an issue on these engines as they are not an interference engine.

Probably is cambelt, have a search on here been covered lots, usually just bends the push rods and maybe breaks a rocker, fix it in a morning easy

seems to be turning over faster than normal/i know i should avoid turning it over though

Sounds like broken belt when it turns over faster

take oil filler cap off and turn engine if rocker under the cap dont move then belt has snapped

investigated the problem today /found that the belt had not snapped but had 12 or so teeth sheered off undearneath the bottom pulley /so when turning over by hand top of engine didnt move with bottom.i timmed the engine up put the pins in location and changed the belt re tightend the tentioner/and turned over by hand x4 no problem /tried to start but wont fire /i havent checked rockers or pushrods /what are the pushrods and how will i change them or tell if there bent and would this allow the engine to turn over but not fire?

yes will turn over but not fire if rods are bent, as will in essence put valve timing out , as the valve will not open or close at correct time .push rods are located. under rockers opposite the valves... you need to take rocker rail off, you will see push rods... push rods are the link from the cams up to the rockers, hence push rods as they push the valves.

do they just pull out /also will it be easy to see if there bent?

havnt done one of your engines but should imagine once rockers are out the way they would pull out.
should be easy enough to check if you cant see there bent. roll them on a flat surface
if not sure just replace loads of your engines in breakers yard sure a forum member will let you no price new

ive timed it up by putting pins in and changed the pushrods van turns over fine but wont start /is there any possibility ive got the timing wrong even though ive put the pins in?

No

But you could have broken rockers and the push rods will almost certainly be bent - meaning the valves wont open!

Take the rocker cover off and have a look

ive already done that and replaced the pushrods forgot to say /all but 2 were bent /
after an hour of fafin about with timing ive got the beast running /which im glad about ,no need for a new engine

all there is left now is to wonder why the belt myseriously shed teeth in the first place
