Key fob - reprogramming spare?

Postby berbeck » Tue Feb 09, 2010 11:38 am

Hi guys,

My key fob is getting harder and harder to use.

I have opened up the back and it appears the three little nipples are virtually compressed flat. They dont spring back up.

I have a brand new spare fob from my other Transit - can I reprogramme this one to use on my other van?

....or am I going to have to go to Ford and get stichced up for £50 :(

Can't you just swap the circuit boards over? I mean, put the original one into the new case?

OK, heres the pictures -

We have two transits. Both the same year and model.

They keyfob on the left is from Transit 1, they key on the right is from Transit 2

Transit 1 is used by two drivers (myself and another guy) so we need both keys and fobs.

Transit 2 is only used by by my son. Hence his spare is perfect and has never been used.

I cant just swap the circuit board as this wont operate Transit 1. I thought maybe it was just the rubber case that was wearing thin, but it isnt. Its the three little nipples that have been compressed by constant use.
When I press the nipples on my sons spare you can hear it click. When I press the nipples on my spare you cant hear anything.

This my circuit board - discoloured nipples and flat

This is my sons spare keyfob - lovely and clean

The rubber housing is fine. I've tried swapping them over.

Is there some way I can re-code the circuitboard for my sons van spare keyfob to make it activate my doors?
