Supercharged Tranny?

Postby Weegee » Sun May 28, 2006 2:48 pm

I was just wondering if anyone on here has a supercharged tranny, or if there is any technical reason why my 2.5 di cannot be supercharged.

I bought all the kit over a year ago, to supercharge one of my mondeo's but due to a change of direction in my life, i never got round to it.

I now do site security, so im away from home for 3 or 4 weeks at a time, so i dont get any time to spend with my mondeo. So now its the turn of the transit.

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions that can help me on my way, then please feel free to offer them up. The supercharger that i have is m45 eaton off a mini cooper S., i also have a bypass valve, and various pulleys, in different sizes ect sitting waiting.

Thanks people, and i will make sure to post up loads of pics of work in progress.

Isn't a supercharger belt driven like an alternator :?:
Then you'll probably need to fit it in place of where the aircon. compressor option goes :D

Sorry can't help any further  But I'm sure someone on here can :D

What engine do you have :?: 76PS :?:

Yeah its the 76ps i have.

The supercharger is belt driven.

I have been reading through some of the ford tech microfinche, and it seems that there was an option of a second alternator on some models, which goes (from the front of the van) on the bottom right hand side of the engine. I was hoping to use this as a mounting point. I believe this is also the same place where the coolant pump goes for refrigerated transits.

That's the one :!: The rest would be the detailed fitting of the super charger :D
How much extra power are you hoping to get :?:
The maximum Fords managed was 115PS @ 4000rpm and 255Nm of torque @ 2100rpm :D I wouldn't imagine you could go too much further without compromising the reliability of the Di unit :D

i read some where that a company who marinised di engines once got 140ps from the old di :? :? will have a look and see if i can find anymore info on it :?
You only need two tools in life: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the duct tape.

They may have achieved this figure for maximum power output but they may have sacrificed the low end torque
Not that it would bother someone who quite happilly keeps their engine at maximum revs.

Im not hoping for much, just to be able to cruise at 90 would be nice. i carry a 75 litre water tank, 3 Mahoosive batterys and waste water, so it bogs me down a bit.

I dont really want to mess too much with the engine, im hoping to just bolt the s/c on, and play with the pulley sizes a bit, im not looking for a dragster, lol

Is anything needed to be done with the fuelling, im not to up to date with diesels, but im sure anyone who has added a turbo can help me, same thing, only difference is the method of compression.

Thanks

To cruise at 90mph  :?:
You'll need a faster rear axle for a start :!:
For a bit more power you can firstly adjust the fuelling  I don't know how to link yet so perhaps someone else can do this or you can do a search on the forum :D
This is quite straight forward and shouldn't take you long :D
Some claim that they can beat a turbo van by doing this mod :?

Try looking under "Technical How To"

maybe some bluespot 100ps injecters would aid the fuelling   8) 8) 8)

I done the fuelling mod within 3 hours of owning the van, its essential. My older sibling was a ford technition before he started his own garage, and he done this as soon as i brought the van down for him to 'check out', but im still needing a little more 'poke' from it.

I am curious about the faster rear axel, can someone enlighten me on this? My diff is screwed anyway and screems like hell, so i will be working on this area soon. If i need a different axel, can you tell me what i need - so that i can do that, rather than pay for to fix mines then have to replace it anyway.

It is a 5.14 final drive that is fitted at present, if that helps any.

Regards
