Small electrical problem

After fitting the Tourneo roof lining with all those extra lights i could smell like burning plastic near the fusebox, i felt all the relays and one was hot so i pulled it out, the interior lights now don't come on when the drivers door is opened but do when the others are, it's a White relay with a printed circuit inside and only has 3 pins, i have discovered it's the lights on buzzer, do you think the extra lights in the back are causing it to burn out?

I would say so, maybe the tourneo relay is different, any chance of getting hold of it or maybe someone with a tourneo will have a look for you and match part no. on relay

the bit thats burnt out on the relay could be an in-line fuse, cant see very good in the pic of the circuit board, does it look like the track has burnt or a component blown/popped

It looks like a small component or chip, it's a small Black rectangle bit that is soldered on each end, it's got a number on it 5m 87, it smelled like burning plastic and it still does smell burnt

Are you sure you dont have a trapped or crossed cable somewhere on the new lights

Don't think so, surely the fuse would have gone bang if there was a short?

Yes, i was hoovering out the drivers side of the cab area when i smelt it

Looks like it might be a small inductor (coil) for noise suppression. These are normally sized to suit the current/load passing through them so I guess it's possible that adding the increased load of additional lamps may well have caused it to heat up.

Just as well you smelt it really...

When you open the door the door pin switch puts an earth to the interior lights as they are earth switched, all I can think of is the earth is bad i.e. the pin switch may need replacing when you replace the relay that is if the tourneo relay is the same as yours.
