LDV CONVOY PICK UP.

Postby BUNGAL » Fri Mar 12, 2010 7:08 pm

SORRY I KNOW ITS LDV, I have been loking for a while for another transit 190 pickup. but all the ones i can find are either to expensive or only suitable for dodgy scrap metal twats. i have been offered a ldv convoy for a good price, what are they like? i know to avoid the pegoet engined ones. but they seem to be cheaper than the transits there must be a good reason.
i regreat selling my old one before christmas but times were hard.

the best at weight carrying and a good truck, but be aware of front kingpins. try and get the 100ps epic turbo (ford engine) model (they go well) and a lot cheaper than a ford and do not rot like a ford

An LDV will be cheap and if its got a Transit Di engine it will be reliable, it will also be uncomfortable and the heater will be crap

Hi there

I buy alot of LDV's

Things to look out for on the convoy

Bad bits
heaters are always crap, check to see they work and blow hot air
doors never line up as they should and the handels always come off
they rust on the body badly or not at all they are strange like that
not as nice to drive as a transit
King pins are ££ to replace in labour and garages hate doing them
they have a dull interior & dash from british leyland parts Bin (metro / maestro nasty look)

Good bits

Alot of ldvs are ex post so serviced well
they dont rot like a transit underbody (my opin)
cheap to buy
good size
fuel gauge always work and accurate unlike tranist which are rubbish and run out when saying its harlf full
the lpg vans save money and fun to drive

If you need a chap tipper get a ldv but if you can find a cheap anoth transit I would get that if you can.

Hope that helps

Nice one cheers for all the info. looked at two ldvs today both were really tidy but i drove them both one of them had so much play in the steering it was scary. im going to have to save a bit more and wait for a transit.

Oh yeah i forgot about that one

LDV's have alot of steering play in them you can adjust them up when they get bad,

They even had play in the steering from new

I would get a transit to be honest but there are worse vans out there than ldv's

More like steering a boat! You have to drive them like you see in films - bit to the left, bit to the right! I bought an ldv convoy 1998 drove it to the south of France the next day and suffered in my shoulders for months afterwards! What would be a three point turn in a Transit is more like a 9 in the Convoy. Steer clear!! :D
1990 LWB Mk3 twin wheel 190 minibus (My favourite but stolen)
1998 LDV Convoy Ford DI engine but... yuk, yuk, yuk (bought in desperation, sold 2 months later)
1997 SWB Mk5 minibus (Great but small)
2001 LWB Mk5 TD 100ps Minibus (hmm..)
Get me to that gig!
