Only running on 3 cylinders? 2.5 mk5{Fixed}

I'm lost when it comes to diesels so need some advice on this...
Van's been absolutely perfect for months,then a few day's ago i decided to open the e.g.r. butterfly just for the sake of it
Ran it afterwards and everything has been fine.
Then lent the van to my mate last night and he went up to alnwick in it (100miles round trip) and on the way there it started juddering and low on power?
I got it back and it looks and sounds like it''s only running on 3 cylinders?

Can anyone give me and idea's of what i can do to find out what's wrong? i'm guessing on blocked injector but that really is jsut a guess...

if the van is a s plate or later they did a mod on fuel spill pipe if u look at the injectors the return pipe or spill pipe should come off no 1 cylinder the one nearst the front if it comes off no 4 & goes back to the return pipe large black pipe on bulkhead , u need to get a lengh off spill pipe & a blanking cap remove blanking cap off no1 cylinder & pipe off no 4 put a blanking cap on no 4 & then run nreturn pipe off no 1 cylinder back to return pipe on bulk head , start up blead all injectors & hopefully that should cure it was a ford recall but a lot slipped through, if its already been done then look for a leeking spill pipe that will sometimes cause a misfire , if its earlier van look for leaking spill pipe quick way to tell if its the later pump is look at fuel filter if its clamped with a plastic wing nut it DOES NOT need the mode, if its held up by a plastic coller itDOES NEED the mod bit long winded but hope it makes sense & helps

Most likely air in an injector. Start the motor and use a 17mm A/F spanner to undo each injectors pipe union nut in turn. It'll be obvious when you find the right one, as frothy fuel will leak out for a few seconds and then run clear(ish), nip the nut back up and hopefully that cylinder should chime back in happy as you like

9 times out of 10 it'll be No1 cylinder nearest the front that has got the air trapped. The leak off mod can go a long way to stopping this happening, but if it keeps doing it you need to look for an air leak between tank - lift pump - filter - injection pump.

I'll have a go at at spill pipe and un-doing the nuts one at a time to see if that helps.Doesn't sound too difficult.
I didn't realise it was so easy to bleed injectors,is that all there is to it?

Thanks for the offer,i'll bear it mind if bleeding the injectors doesn't work it's not really very driveable the way it is as it's really sluggish.

my van was the same and still suffers some misfire issues its going to be air in the system as above crack the injectors off one by one and im sure you will be back on track in no time .

iv done the mod mentioned on my mk 5 and i still get some air lock issues ...... good luck

Undone number one injector and loads of white throth come out,then some clean looking diesel.
By the time i'd locked the nut back up the engine was allready running perfect again .
I bled the rest of them anyway just to be safe but yeah i'm quite happy at how easy that was Worked on cars since i was 14 but never touched a diesel in my life lol...
