Smell/Smoke at the traffic lights...Help please

Postby josh007 » Sun Mar 14, 2010 6:56 pm

Hey, I just brought a Ford Transit Connect 2006 with 80,000km on the clock. I have never owned a diesel car before so this is new for me! I was really dissapointed the other day when i was sitting at the traffic lights and all of the sudden this terrible chemical burning smell started comining through the heating with also a little smoke. This unbareable so i had to turn off the heating ,-10 also! I dont know if its like the smell of burning diesel or what! In Sweden we have this product called T Red which is the fuel used for camping ovens, i guess this is the closest thing that i can think of when i smell this! Yesterday i had the heating on again at the traffic lights but this time my car was surrounded by a huge cloud of smoke( not only dissapointing but imbaressing too!) . I quickly pulled over to the side of the road and looked under the car and found that the smoke and the smell was coming from this small pipe (at the back of the motor, in the centre, inline with the back of the front wheels, pipe is pointing down to the ground. maybe 25-35mm in size) .Could someone please help me....What could be the reason for this smell and smoke coming from the pipe, and what is this stupid Pipe? Any ideas anyone? Any help would be much appricated! Thankyou for reading my post! :?

Simply the exhaust pipe from your Webasto/Ebersprächer heater....

In certain weather conditions it can produce lots of smoke ( and smell) BUT it can also be the diesel heater not firing up so to be on the safe side make sure your heater is working properly
VW T5 LWB 130 hp (soon to be Sportvan owner ( i think..))
