banana engine injector removal

i have a ldv convoy 2.5 transit banana engine. it has been standing idle for 4 months after i fitted a new starter motor.
i fitted a new battery today she turned over for about 5 seconds (but cranking only -no start)and after that all i got was a whirr off the starter motor.
recharged battery - same, same with a jump start -took the starter motor out and tested the starter motor - tested ok.
the effect is like a seized engine
i then removed the square air filter cover and found the housing was full of water and full most way up to the top of the upper hose at the banana housing air intake.
i must have drawn this water into the cylinders and have been told to remove the injectors and turn the engine over to dislodge the water.
i disconnected the bolt that holds each injector plate on the first two injectors (one for each injector) and the injector nuts on the pipes but i cannot move the injectors.
q1 how did the water get into the air filer
q2 will the water in the cylinders drain off and how long would it take or will i need to remove the injectors.
q3 if i need to remove the injectors can someone tell me how to do it ( it seems they need to be lifted up mayby by a tool but i would appreciate the method so that i do not damage them
q4 if i remove and replace the injectors is there any traps to watch out for

to remove the injectors you can buy a tool (but I dont know where from - I have never seen one for sale)

Or undo the high pressure pipes (at both ends) and remove to get them out of the way... Then undo the clamp bolts and gently twist the injector, it should then just pull out! You will need to remove the injectors (or the head!). Spin it over using a spanner/ratchet on the crank pulley to push out as much water as possible before spinning it on the starter

strange water in the air intake do you think rain water could have leaked into it somehow

i think it is rainwater (i tasted it for diesel)
and its the second time its happened.
i forgot about it this time.
the van has been standing due to the recession, needs an mot and tax but getting it on the road a bit at a time.
about the injectors - i can twist slightly so should i gently ease them by twisting them with molegrips.

How I got mine was gently twist and very gently lever with a screwdriver

Put a spanner on the pulley bolt and see if it actually will turn over. By the sounds of it spinning over for 5secs I would say it hasn't got enough water in the cylinders to hydraulic lock - but don't quote me.

It would pay to pull the inlet manifold off to double check there's no water sitting in it, else the motor will just pull that in when you come to start it. That's what knackers them as it'll bend or break something important with the motor running.

If you have got water in a cylinder, turn it over very gently/slowly by hand, any water will be pushed past the rings into the sump, so you'll want to change the oil before you fire it up.

yes i tried to turn the engine by hand but it was locked cheers and thanks about the oil tip
just waiting for the weather to get better before i get back to it

Hello the puller cost me nearly 100 pounds it is not cheap but it works, mine where very tight and the puller got them out ,soak them with wd 40 over night ......brian

thanks to everyone i got it started today
i used the wd40 and a screwdriver to get the injectors out.
i could not get a manual turn on the engine with a ratchet on the alternator pulley until i really tightened the fan belt and after much effort the engine released.
then the starter motor i bought new on ebay from a north london dealer (flimsy foreign material thin and cheap looking) about 3 months ago decided to throw the bendix itself forward but not turn.
took it out and tested it - faulty - in with the old starter, injector pipes loosened - a good bit of cawing and with easy start into the air intake and she caught
so thank you for all your advice as money is tight and a mechanic was out of the question - so many thanks and much appreciated
