Locks

Transit on a 52 plate.
The lock on the driver's door is very tight and feels like it's going to break at any time, might spray some WD40 in to see if this helps. In the meantime would this van originally have come with a remote and if so how easy would it be to buy one and program it to the van. At the moment I only have keys for opening the door's.

hi i think your better using grease or oil rather than wd40...wd40 works short term but is only for water dispersant rather than lubrication....ive not got the same transit as you but id say that maybe the door or lock has dropped so id see if there is any way you can adjust it ...hope this is helpfull
MY VANS NOT NOISEY...ITS JUST MY STEREO NEEDS MORE SPEAKERS

I have to agree, hit it with some wd40 and get it loose then hit it with some spray grease if you can get some (you can get into places you cant with your fingers)
Put some grease on any nylon brackets the rods run through as well

Going to try spraying in the lock and see what happens. If no luck I'll strip down the door and explore!

Careful of spraying into the actual lock itself (the barrel you put the key into) any liquid will trap dust and grit which could cause problems.
Get some graphite powder, thats what locksmiths use to lube the key barrels as it doesnt trap any dust or grit because its a dry lubricant.
I reckon you should open the door up and give a good lube anyway, do it once and do it right....

Yes, as far as I'm aware all the mk6 transits had key fobs, Can easily be found on Ebay, or even on here. All the two button fobs work on every type of van, but if you have back doors / sliding door then you can also get a three button fob to open just the back. A two button one will open front with first press then back with second press

Programming takes about 20 seconds using a few simple steps with ignition key. :D

If you mean programming, then its easy.

Sit in drivers seat, all doors shut.

Turn ignition from off to second click on (position 2) eight times within about 10 seconds, ending in the "on" position. (do NOT crank engine, if you turn key too far and do this, wait 30 seconds, then start the eight turns again)

The door locks should all cycle, locked then unlocked.

Then press any button on the fob once,

Locks should all cycle again.

Turn off ignition and test fob buttons for correct operation.
Job Done :D

As jolly olly says.

Not that iv'e ever found :!: you certainly cant damage anything or reprogramme it by mistake. If it dosen't work, wait a couple of minutes, then start again. But provided your Central locking all works ok, you shouldn't have any problems. :D

Thanks for all your advice. Bought a remote off Ebay last night so should hopefully be up and running in a couple of days, fingers crossed!
