Building a false floor

Hi all,
I'm looking to build a false floor in my mk6 so I can slide 8x4 sheets in when needed but keep all my tools above. Any ideas what thickness ply I should use, I weigh in at about 18st and I don't really want to fall through or have it bow over time.

you would be better off building a rack to slide the sheets in upright. Even 3/4" ply will eventually bend with quite a bit of weight on it if only supported at the sides.

I did that in my van severall years ago but recently took it out again as change in use.

I used stud work timber as was cheap and you dont get splinters as easy.

i put a lenght down each side screwed into the side then fitted cross bars and then used 3

of the big loft boards cut to size. was really strong and didnt weigh to much.

Here is what i knocked up to carry sheet materials, this way you can have various size sheets so you can just slide them out as and when.
Its a bit rough but has served its purpose very well, it will be removed soon as its no longer required.

How about making 3 beams out of box section steel that would help support the false floor?
