shifting down the gears,

my smiley fronted 2000 w,reg diesel transit is playing up again, i havent had a transit for a few years so cant remember all the things that go wrong with them, here we go' when im driving and slowing down and and going down through the gears i can get it in to a lower gear, with out a crunch, im not usre if the clutch is on its last legs, the pedal bites quite near the floor, and dosent slip. can some one advise if its the clutch, i remember vaugley 10 years ago i had something like this but it was to do with a bit on the clutch pedal, any help would be appreciated, rgds mike

Your thinking of the ratchet auto adjuster. Try resetting it (i think you just pivot it back but not sure) although they do wear out. Had to do one on an escort years ago which was fiddly but more space to work in the tranny. If not the cable adjustment could be syncros in the box.

No auto adjuster on this model, 10mm nut on end of clutch cable. Try tightening it a few turns. If you need to keep tightening it regularly it's probably the clutch arm cracking slowly.

are you sure..or was this a garage diagnois..As that year should be manual adjuster..

I stand corrected just checked my 99 Di and its manual adjuster.

Yeah, manual adjusters came in about 95-96. Goes with the low-lift clutch. (mind you I've fitted the high-lift clutch to these with no problems!)

latest up date, yes its manual all wright, so went to the garage who done it' and asked what the bill was for for the plastic part, let just say with out going in to detail, im not paying, and and the cocky little git who spoke to me is nursing and sore hoota, rgds mike
