Fault Code Reader

I would like some advice on fault code readers, we have a 54 plate LDV with a ford engine showing a flashing heater plug light.
The van has sessions of not starting and has logged a fault, to obtain a fault code reader the question is does the ford engine have a socket to plug one into and what type.

On the LDV the odb plug is in the small fuse box under the bonnet to the left of the brake servo. If you are using he snap on type scanner you go in as ford transit,
