MK6 Engine Problems

Postby linkyork » Sat May 08, 2010 9:45 am

I have a Autosleeper motorhome on a MK5 Transit chassis.
It is 05 reg and as is usual for motorhomes has only just got to 20,00 miles and until recently ran sweetly without any problem.
During the journey home from a recent trip the engine sound suddenly changed but with no obvious effect on driving so home was reached.
I telephoned my Ford dealer who told me to bring the vehicle in for a check.
However on starting the engine it was running rough and was very noisy.
THe dealer advised getting it recovered and it was delivered to them on the back of the breakdown truck.
I was later advised that the timing solenoid needed replacing and depending on how the work went it would cost from £500 to £1500.
I asked if this part should need replacing at such a low mileage and the reply was no not really.
The work was done and the van came home and a few days later was moved around in preparation for a holiday with no problem.
Next day came the holiday and the engine though turning over would not fire.
It was once again recovered to the Ford dealer.
Yesterday I was told that they think its the fuel pump saying it was probably a knock on effect from changing the timing solenoid.
THey want to charge me £1700+VAT for changing the fuel pump but will refund the £572 bill I paid for the timing solenoid change.
Can anyone advise on this episode please.
THanks
John
